People wash their bed sheets, mattress covers often but they forget to wash their pillows. Even if they remember, they do not wash because of the nature of their interior fillings or exterior fabrics. The better way to protect these pillows from the dust is, buy the protectors or cover them with the pillow cases. However, it is necessary to clean your pillows at least once a year to keep it clean and hygienic. But remember that depending on the interior fillings, pillows should be washed and dried; otherwise they lose the shape and functionality.
Below are the washing instructions for pillows:
- First, remove the pillow protectors or pillow cases. These are washed at least twice a week because it contains most dust particles and dust mites.
- Then, bring the pillows for washing and check the tags of those pillows so that you can wash according to those instructions.
- Polyester, cotton pillows can be washed but down and feathered stuff pillows cannot be washed by yourself. This requires dry cleaning (by experts). Buckwheat pillows cannot be washed.
- Sort the pillows based on whichever having same washable instructions.
- First choose small sized pillows to wash. Note that decorative pillows cannot be washed.
- Set the temperature of the water in the washing machine. Hot water is best suitable for cleaning. Then, add the mild detergent powder to that water.
- Then load the pillows in the machine and rinse several times so that the residue of detergent powder is washed off.
- Then place the pillow in the dryer for drying.
Now your pillows are ready to use in the house.
