Disadvantages of Mutual Funds

Disadvantages of Mutual Funds
  • Professional Management - Many investors debate whether or not the so-called professionals are any better than you or I at picking stocks. Management is by no means infallible, and, even if the fund loses money, the manager still takes his/her cut.
  • Costs - Mutual funds don't exist solely to make your life easier - all funds are in it for a profit. The mutual fund industry is masterful at burying costs under layers of jargon. These costs are somewhat complicated.
  • Dilution - It's possible to have too much diversification. Because funds have small holdings in so many different companies, high returns from a few investments often don't make much difference on the overall return. Dilution is also the result of a successful fund getting too big. When money pours into funds that have had strong success, the manager often has trouble finding a good investment for all the new money.
  • Taxes - When making decisions about your money, fund managers don't consider your personal tax situation. For example, when a fund manager sells a security, a capital-gains tax is triggered, which affects how profitable the individual is from the sale. It might have been more advantageous for the individual to defer the capital gains liability.

Lunch at Restaurant

Today, in the late afternoon, Jeannine, Huslu and I went out for lunch. Last week we wanted to go to the restaurant "behind" the nearby park in Marianna - Old Mexico Restaurant -. I asked Jeannine to stand in the door opening of our house - actually the entry to the small tower with the stairs up to our apartment - and took a few photos of her holding our baby son. Huslu was wearing his pink dress and looked lovely. We crossed the street fast in order to get into the shadow and walked into the direction of the park. Since the restaurant is behind Jeannine suggested that we walked down a small street so to get there and we did. One house to the left of the small street had a tree with beautiful purple flowers. I loved that tree and as soon as we have a house with a garden I want at least one of those trees my garden.

After a short walk we arrived at the restaurant. Jeannine asked me if I wanted to eat first so she could hold Huslu and when I was finished I could return the favor. And so we did. The lunch consisted of soup and a small dish with a fruit salad, followed by the main course: a salad with rice and what looked like the patty of a veggie burger.

The restaurant looks very nice and has a nice big garden with a swing set and a slide. After we had finished our lunch we walked to the back of the garden and took a few photos. When I returned to Jeannine and our baby son Huslu the sky got quite dark and we decided to leave. Jeannine had already paid the bill and when the waitress returned with the change I left the coins as a tip. We walked back to the house through the same street of beautiful house we saw. Shortly after we had arrived back at our house it started to rain.

My Search for Kid Safety Apartment

As like many parents I also had a dream of buying a house and raise my children in, but that doesn’t come true in my case. My budget allowed me to go for a rental apartment. So I have decided to go for an apartment where my children feel safe and fun. And I am successful in this regard by the grace of god. I have found such apartment in one of the apartments in Philadelphia. But what did I look for in selecting one among them to be kids friendly. Let me share some of the things what you need to look in apartments in finding such apartments.

Safety is the first priority I have given in selecting my apartment. Beyond basic concerns like a well-made building, new and properly functioning appliances, adequate lighting around the complex, a gate to keep strangers out, and strong locks on the doors and windows, there are many other factors to consider. It’s important for children to be able to connect with other kids nearby, so make sure the area around the apartment building is safe as well. My child’s access to school is also extremely important to me. I won’t be driving my child to school. I have checked if there is a bus stop nearby. Will it be safe for child to walk to the bus stop? That is how I’ve chosen my apartment.
