Caring For Babies During Winter Times – Use Heaters

Normally in babies, different body parts and immune systems are still in the developing stage, therefore they are easily prone to different diseases. During the winter times, they need sufficient heat and this heat can be provided by electric heaters and others means.

Almost all the heaters are safe for a baby but the heaters which run by using kerosene, propane or gas heaters should be well-maintained and monitored closely to prevent the possibility of carbon monoxide leakage. The heaters that are best for a baby's room are given below:

Baseboard Heaters:
These are the ideal heaters for a baby's room because they heat the room evenly and they are attached to the wall and there is no danger of the heater being tipped over.

Ceramic Heaters:
These small, portable heaters having ceramic discs inside, are heated by electricity. They should be kept near the crib as they do not give off enough heat to cause serious burns and they do not warm an entire room.

Radiant Heaters:

This type of heater is the best choice for a baby's room because the elements responsible for heating are closed and they are automatically turned off if the heaters are tripped, radiant heaters like quartz and infrared heaters operate by directing heat towards an object.

Convection Heaters:
These heaters are safe because the heating elements are closed and more over they are quiet, not disturbing the baby. A convection heater is circular and portable. It warms the air and distributes it throughout the room.

Vent less gas heaters are not safe to use in a baby's room as they release carbon monoxide. As the babies have elevated metabolic rates, the gas accumulates in their bodies faster than in adults and causes the death of the infant.
