This detoxification generally deals with the medications apart from the behavioral therapies. Long lasting behavior changes cannot be expected from the detoxification process. The physician will monitor the medications which are used for the treatment, so this detoxification process is often termed as the medically managed withdrawal. Generally, the detoxification is considered as the first stage of the treatment. In this type of process, people will be treated with the dangerous physiological effects for stopping the drug use. Once the detoxification is done, then the person will be sent to the formal assessment, and hence they are referred for appropriate drug addiction treatment.

Long Term residential treatment: This treatment is done in the non-hospital places and the patient will be monitored for 24 hours. There are different types of long term residential treatments , out of which the Therapeutic Community(TC) is the famous one which is mostly preferred by the people and the duration of the course will be around 6 to 12 months. This TC improves the productive nature, responsibility and also helps in improving the personal accountability. Generally, the procedure of treatment is the short term residential treatment, but initially the patient will be treated in the hospital for about 3 to 6 weeks then he will be seen for outpatient therapy.

Out patient treatment programs: Group counseling plays a major role in the Outpatient treatment programs. There are different types of treatment programs and also different types of services are offered. In addition to the drug addiction treatment, some of the outpatient programs are also used for treating the mental health problems. The cost of the treatment is less when compared to the residential and the inpatient methods.
