Speak to Your Friend or Family Members Facing Gambling Problem

Your friend or family member may face a gambling problem, so they may need help. But, they will not agree that they have a problem. For that you need to know about problem gambling, its warning sings, negative impacts and different options which help in recovery, before approaching the person. There are few things to be considered, such as:
  • Get information about gambling: This is important that gathering information about gambling before you meet the person who is facing gambling problem. You can get information about different counseling services which are available in the community. So if your friend needs help then you can inform them about such counseling services.
  • Disclose the problem: Generally people think that if a friend or family member have a problem of gambling, then they feel that they are helping by making excuses for the individual, lending money for them, covering up their behavior and disclose the problem with their family members.
  • Select the right time to speak: If you observe that your friend or family member have a problem gambling then choose a right time to speak them about this. You should be in the caring and understanding manner and you should not get angry and scold them.
There are still few things to be considered such as talking about impacts with them, express the feeling from “i” point of view, be supportive etc.
